ATLANTA, GA -- The Georgia NAACP will mobilize all its members to rally in a peaceful protest on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Glynn County Courthouse.
We will continue the pressure to ensure justice in the death of Ahmaud Arbery. It has been over two months since his death and those responsible for his murder have yet to be arrested. We are no longer waiting; we demand that George Barnhill, District Attorney of the Waycross Judicial Circuit, and Jackie Johnson, District Attorney of Brunswick Judicial Circuit resign immediately, inconsiderate of their eventual recusal in this case. The graphic video of Ahmaud’s murder that was made public on Tuesday, May 4, 2020 has caused both a national uproar and widespread call to take urgent action. In the midst of these unprecedented times, we will be following guidelines from CDC and collaborating with local hospitals to stay protected from COVID-19. As the Georgia NAACP, our mission remains to provide the proper advocacy and resources necessary to hold elected officials accountable. The Brunswick community should feel safe, yet emboldened racists due to judicial inaction endanger them. Because of this, we rally in solidarity.
