UNIT DEVELOPMENT

 

Thank you for your interest in starting or reactivating an Adult Branch, College Chapter, or Youth Council of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

 

REACTIVATION OF A UNIT

In order to reactivate the branch, the following steps need to take place:

 

  1. Secure a minimum of 50 paid members for Adult Units and 25 paid members for College or Youth Units.  The membership fee for adult members is $30.00 per year and $10.00 for Youth and College Membership.   Please make sure to contact the State Office to receive the Unit Number and affix the same to the individual membership applications or members can join Online.  Please use this link only.  If you use the National Online program, the Unit may not get credit for that membership.

  2. All monies should be sent to the Georgia NAACP Office along with the membership forms or all information listed on the membership forms.  (Do not send cash in the mail)

  3. The Georgia NAACP Office will send the memberships to the National Office for processing along with a request forreactivation.

  4. The Georgia NAACP may hold an election or appoint Unit Leadership once you have received the (50) members.  The list of members will be notified as to the election date and location.

  5. The unit cannot operate in the name of the NAACP including opening a bank account until the unit has been reactivated.

  6. The Georgia NAACP Office will send the branch's share of the membership fees back to the branch upon installation of the Unit Leadership.

  7. Interested parties should form an organizing committee to work to complete the items above.  The names and contact information should also be forwarded to the Georgia NAACP Office via the Officer Update form.

 

START A NEW UNIT

Secure a minimum of 100 paid members for Adult Units and 25 paid members for College or Youth Units.  The membership fee for adult members is $30.00 per year and $10.00 for Youth and College Membership.  Members should use the individual membership applications or Members can join Online.  Please use this link only.  If you use the National Online program, the Unit may not get credit for that membership.

  2. All monies should be sent to the Georgia NAACP Office along with the membership forms or all information listed on the membership forms.  (Do not send cash in the mail)

  3. The Georgia NAACP Office will send the memberships to the National Office for processing along with a request for a new Charter.

  4. The Georgia NAACP may hold an election or appoint Unit Leadership once you have received a Charter (requires approval of the National Board of Directors).  The list of members will be notified as to the election date and location.

  5. The unit cannot operate in the name of the NAACP including opening a bank account until the unit has been chartered.

  6. The Georgia NAACP Office will send the branch's share of the membership fees back to the branch upon installation of the Unit Leadership.
